[Game design] Classes

Just a super short post telling you that we have planned to have 4 base classes in the game.

They are: Fighter, Bandit, Magician, Ranger.

Pretty classic fantasy game classes, eh? Don't worry, we got some things that will mix it up ;) And no, this won't be a holy trinity / tank and spank game :D

[ART] artdump 2

So, here's artdump 2. Monsters, characters, environments, weapons. All the good stuff :)

we're still in early exploration mode, meaning we haven't really set anything in stone (almost ;))

Hope you enjoy and until next time! :D

What is this?

Hello and welcome to this blog!

This is the introduction post to sort of outline what this is all about and what's going to be happening on this blog in the future.
So anyway. This is a game we're making. Or at least at this point we're on the early stages of the development where we're figuring out what to do and how to do it. This blog will serve as a sort of progress meter for us and the place where you can see every update we make. We don't believe that there's any reason to keep our progress a secret. We'll upload everything we can, sketches, concept art, production art, in game assets, early "graybox-phase" in-engine stuff to videos about fully finished levels.

So, as for this game we're making:
It's in short and simple terms an ARPG (Action Role Playing Game) called "Fortress". It's highly inspired by old-school games we grew up with, like Capcom's two arcade masterpieces, "Tower of doom" and "Shadow over Mystara", Pen and paper RPGs, Severance: blade of darkness, and the era where games were allowed to require player-skill.

Although we will have a "level up" system in place that will allow you to learn new attack-skills and wield new weapons, 'Fortress' will be a highly player skill based game. You are required attack, avoid enemy attacks and block in real time. This isn't a game where you can simply stand and "tank" enemy attacks, either at the start of the game or at high level gameplay.

To "make up" for the difficulty of this game we're aiming to make the game playable with friends in a variety of ways, some of which include split-screen local co-operative mode or LAN co-operative mode. Make no mistake, playing in co-op won't make the game easy. We believe that playing a difficult game and overcoming cool challenges such as toppling a huge monster, exploring a dangerous ruin or surviving an ambush in co-op play is immensly satisfying.

In the core this is a game that we thought up together and are all itching to get to a point where we can actually sit down ourselves and play it.

So that's it for now. We'll start by uploading sketches and concept paintings and as soon as we have something running ingame, we'll put up a video of it.
